![]() If Diablo 3 was a somewhat sterile attempt to maximize loot churn and make us love seasons (as well as “revolutionize” in-game spending via the short-lived real-money auction house), Diablo 4 clings to the same trends, but with much better set dressing. Not long after exploring Act 1, it’s clear that Sanctuary has embraced a return to moody gothic horror. There are ominous glowing gateways, self-righteous zealots, bad parents, bad children, and those abominable strings of flies that instantly kill you. ![]() With the Butcher in the first Diablo, arguably the most iconic encounter in the series, the best cheese was usually trapping him behind a door (when you could still close them) or shooting him from a barred portal.ĭiablo 4 has, on the surface, all of the right ingredients for a Diablo game: A lone Wanderer gets caught up in an existential war and becomes the last line of defense against all-consuming doom this time it’s Lilith, the Daughter of Hatred, who created Sanctuary with the angel Inarius. ![]() There’s a ritualistic, rhythmic power in piercing a series of gates before a major boss, running headlong toward a fate you can’t see until it’s too late. I’ve funneled hordes of monsters through doors to create bottlenecks and pick them off at a distance. When you think about the existential infrastructure of the game and its visual language, it’s doors all the way down, from humble gates and fiery red portals to ornate stone slabs and yawning caverns. Diablo 4, like its predecessors, is a game about doors - pausing on the threshold of an open maw, bathed in unholy light and anticipation before you meet whatever’s on the other side. I don’t mean the hypocrisy of the High Heavens or the comically doomed faith everyone has in the efficacy of soulstones. In a kinder existence, perhaps Denysov would be a busy carpenter, living off the constant destruction of the Eternal Conflict - the unceasing war between heaven and hell - and the humans trapped in between.īut in this small, dark corner of the map, Denysov’s unfinished portal just might be one of the most overlooked cornerstones of Diablo mythology. It’s a simple dream, but Denysov, who probably hasn’t ventured far from Yelesna, has no idea how many doors my Wanderer routinely annihilates on the path to gold and glory. “Not much else to do ’round here.” He doesn’t have anything to sell, he says to no one in particular, and this door should fetch a nice price. “Been working on this door for days,” he mutters. In the tired village of Yelesna, a man named Denysov hammers away at a studded wooden barrier flanked by a pair of stakes.

The thing is – I see these cheap boards as upmarket ESP8266s, i.e. My script loaded without apparent issue, on the Ethernet connection. I had several attempts at this with a clean SD each time and for now I’ve given up. The board connected up no problem – I went into the setup and set up the WIFI – it found my access point and connected. Ultimately I chickened out and plugged in an Ethernet lead (there’s a long story of broken leads here but we’ll put that to one side). Well, I failed – no-where on the network could we find the board despite setting it up correctly. This board has both Ethernet and WIFI but I wanted to go in at the deep end. I loaded up the DietPi software and there is a text file on the SD you can go in and setup WIFI etc. I installed DIET PI – which has worked so well elsewhere and in this case you really are counting on the operating system working from day one because there is no video output. But whether it is the BOARD or the SOFTWARE I’m not yet sure. Well, I’ve started and up to now I’m not stunningly impressed. This is not a high end board but it REALLY is cheap so I had to see it working. With that in mind I’ve been looking forward to getting an Orange Pi Zero. These things make it a bit more challenging to use, but if you already have experience setting up Raspberry Pi from scratch, you should be able to figure it out as well.ĭisclaimer: Trianglelab provided Orange Pi Zero 2 kit free of charge but did not have any influence on the contents of this post. Those of you who read my stuff will know that I’ve never been impressed by the Orange Pi boards – the utter lack of communication from the company really is stunning and initially the boards used to get very hot – but then came Armbian and all that changed – third party support and lots of info. You may also find that some guides meant for Raspberry Pi will need changes to work. For example, I was unable to find a mounting bracket for it, so I had to design one myself (you can find it here). The only downside, it doesn’t have as big a community as Raspberry Pi. It’s easy to find in stock and it will save you some money too. I think Orange Pi Zero 2 is a great alternative for the Raspberry Pi. SPI pins on the 26-pin header match Raspberry Pi so you will not have any issues hooking up ADXLl345 for input shaper calibration. ![]() I used Ubuntu Jammy based Orange Pi OS, and kiauth made installing Klipper+Mainsail easy. ![]() You will have to flash the Orange Pi OS to the SD card and set up the software from there. However, the SD card images you find to download for MainsailOS, OctoPrint, and similar will not work. Yes, it has plenty of power to run Klipper with Mainsail, Fluidd, or OctoPrint. These features will definitely be helpful to some people. It also has 3 hardware serial ports, so you could connect more serial devices without the need for USB to serial converters. Because Orange Pi Zero 2 uses a WiFi antenna with u.FL connector, you could switch to a high gain antenna if you need to work with bad reception, or you could route the antenna outside the case if you mount the Orange Pi in a metal enclosure. The 26 pin header matches Raspberry Pi, but you can get access to more interfaces with pinmuxing (see pinout here). We rarely use any shields for 3D printers, but they may be important to some people. It also features a smaller GPIO header: 26-pin vs. You will have to flash the Orange Pi OS image and install the software you want from scratch. It means the SD card from Raspberry Pi will not work on the Orange Pi. Orange Pi has a lot of differences, and even though it features the same ARM CPU cores as RPi Zero 2, it is not binary compatible with Raspberry Pi. The performance and price also fit right in the middle between RPi Zero 2 and RPi 4. It’s sized in between RPi Zero and a regular Raspberry Pi. Orange Pi Zero 2 comes in a different form factor than any Raspberry Pi. I got my hands on an alternative board called Orange Pi Zero 2, and I’m going to test how it compares to Raspberry Pi Zero 2 and Raspberry Pi 4. Raspberry Pi is great, and it used to be affordable, but nowadays, due to chip shortage and supply chain issues, its price has skyrocketed, and even if you’re willing to pay it, they are out of stock most of the time. If you want to use Klipper firmware on your 3D printer, you typically add a single board computer (SBC) like Raspberry Pi. ![]() That does not mean you are allowed to follow any route you choose between checkpoints. and you have to show up at all of them or you can be disqualified… the books are nothing more than unmanned checkpoints. it is not an orienteering contest, nor a scavenger hunt. I hate it, because this tale perpetuates the myth that the barkley does not have a course. the time, in that situation, is meaningless. he failed to complete the course by 2 miles. I never expected the story to somehow become that he had missed the time limit by 6 seconds. So, when someone asked if he had gotten in before the limit i foolishly answered. so, i had looked at the watch, even tho there was no possibility that he would be counted as a finisher. I do, however, always record when runners come in, whether they are finishing a loop, or not. Gary had just come in after having run off course and missing the last 2 miles of the barkley. On Monday, he collected a page from the last book on the course and expected to hit a trail, turn left and be able to reach the finish with a few minutes to spare. It was Robbins’ second attempt - after he dropped out in the final loop last year, reporting that he was delusional and seeing faces on the leaves of trees. “That one fatal error with just over two miles to go haunts me.” “I did not finish The Barkley Marathons, and that is no one’s fault but my own,” Robbins wrote in a blog post on his website Tuesday. (This year, it started on Saturday at 1:42 a.m., Canadian Running reported.) Most don’t make it past the first three loops, which are known as the “fun run.” Only 15 people in the race’s history have completed the whole thing, including John Kelly, who finished roughly 30 minutes before Robbins. It starts at odd times, marked not by a starter gun but by Cantrell lighting a cigarette at the iconic yellow gate. The Barkley takes 40 participants a year, chosen through a secretive application process. One used this year was a self-help book titled “There Is Nothing Wrong with You” - which Cantrell liked, because “there was something wrong with every person that got a page out of that book.” Each runner has to rip a page from each of the 13 books to prove they ran the entire course. The checkpoints are just books tucked in the woods. This year, the course had more than 20,000 metres of uphill climb, said Cantrell, the race director. It is five loops of a 20-mile (32-kilometre) course in Frozen Head State Park near Wartburg, Tenn., navigating by map and compass through saw briars and climbing and sliding down hills with names like Testicle Spectacle. Since it started in 1986, the Barkley has earned a reputation as one of the most gruelling trail runs in the world. “But I guess without those moments of tragedy you can’t have the great exaltation when it all works out.” Michael Doyle “A lot of people had something in their eye. “The bugler cried when he had to play,” Cantrell said. Even if he hadn’t veered off course, he had still reached the gate six seconds over the 60-hour limit.Ī bugler played taps to mark Robbins’ failure - one of the many traditions of this strange, three-decade-old race. “And then I realized my error and I knew I didn’t have enough time to come back over the mountain.”Īfter the discussion, it was clear that Robbins’ mistake meant he had not finished the race - running two miles short of the 100 mile (160 kilometre) total. “You turned right instead of left?” Cantrell said. Robbins showed Cantrell a rain-soaked map and pointed out where he veered off course. She looked up at Cantrell, who was wearing a wide-brimmed hat and a canvas riding jacket. Robbins’ wife crouched down and put her hand on his shoulder. He lay on the road with his knees tucked to his belly, hands on his face. “I took the wrong side of the mountain in the fog,” Robbins can be heard saying in video posted by Canadian Running Magazine.
